Ms. Higgins’ Kindergarten Class
Letter to Parents
August 8, 2014

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to Kindergarten! I am so excited to get to know all of your children and explore all of the fun things we have planned for this year. This letter is to introduce myself and give you an idea of how the first day of school will go.

My full name is Courtney Higgins Segers. I got married last year and am looking forward to having children myself in the future. I graduated from North Georgia College and State University, class of 2013, with dual degrees in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, taking road trips, taking pictures both in front of and behind the camera, and being outdoors. I love to learn and that love of learning helps me be a better teacher. I constantly look for new techniques to help improve my classroom and my ways of interacting with my students.

Attached you will find a copy of our first day schedule. The first day of school is always so hectic and seems to be the fastest day of school that we have all year long. A lot of what we will be doing is getting the students accustomed to their new environment, teaching them the rules of the classroom, teaching them the P.A.W.S rules, and having some fun too! The P.A.W.S rules are school-wide expectations that the students will Pledge to do their best, Accept responsibility, Work together, and Show respect. The rules are in place for the benefit of our students and teachers so that the expectations of the school are well known, for inside and outside of the classroom. We have many fun projects planned for the first day of school and I hope that you will enjoy the things that we do and learn in our classroom this year.

Please do not forget to give your child a copy of a family picture and his/her very favorite special toy for the getting to know you part of our day tomorrow. This activity is important to us, because it will give us a chance to find out what interests your child has and for your child to get to know the other children in our class. Also, please remember to fill out and return all paperwork given to you at open house. I also will need a class mom for the year as well as many parent helpers; if you are interested please let me know via a note in your child’s folder or via email.

During our school year I will send home parent letters biweekly. These letters, like this one, are to let the parents know what their child will be doing in the classroom. It will include a lunch schedule, specials, schedule, and any and all important dates. This letter will be the best references for parents on needed information and I encourage you to read it with your child so that he/she will know what to expect in the upcoming weeks. In addition to the letter most of our communication will be through the agendas that the school provides us. These agendas are to be signed daily by the parents and will contain the student’s behavior for the day and notes that you will need.

Thank you so much for the great turn out at open house; it was so nice to meet you and I look forward to seeing you at the different fun parent involvement activities this year. Please feel free to email or call with any question that you may have during the year.

I look forward to this year and watching your child grow and learn. Thanks again!
